the Heart

What I Desire

  • Reflect upon God and my purpose in life
  • Desire a relationship with God as Creator of the world and author of life (my Heavenly Father)
  • Awareness of my own sin and a desire to be forgiven
  • Curious about what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ
  • Recognize the need to be in relationship with other Christians
  • Desire for others to know Jesus
  • Desire to give financially to God’s work
  • Yearn for a deeper and more intimate relationship with Christ that is accompanied by an increased joy in worship
  • Surrender of will and self to Jesus Christ
  • A desire for personal transformation in God’s grace through ongoing repentance and forgiveness
  • Hunger for God’s Word and desire for a knowledge and understanding of the Bible
  • Desire for closer, supportive relationships with other believers
  • Desire to be equipped to share my faith

What I Believe

  • Understand what it means to become a follower of Jesus (i.e. become a Christian)
  • Develop a grasp of the basic, foundational truths of the Christian faith

  • Have a basic understanding of the body of Christ and what it means to belong to it
  • Understand what it means to be Presbyterian (including a grasp of the essential tenets of the Reformed Faith)
  • Begin to think theologically – developing a biblical worldview
  • Understand my spiritual gifts
  • Knowing how to give a rational defense of my faith in response to cultural and secular challenges (Apologetics)
  • Understanding how Christian faith compares and relates to other religions and counterfeit forms of Christianity

the Will

What I Do

  • Have a regular time of Prayer and Bible Reading, including memorizing scripture
  • Attend Worship regularly; participate in church activities
  • Give financially to the church
  • Join the church (profession of faith; baptism)
  • Be involved in regular individual and group Bible Study and Praying for others…get involved in a small group
  • Attend study and growth opportunities such as classes, retreats and seminars

  • Pledge to support the church budget
  • Involved in ministry and service opportunities; consider being part of a committee
  • Explore the practice of other Spiritual Disciplines; find and/or be a mentor.
  • Share your growth with others by developing deeper relationships and/or teaching a class or leading a small group
  • Commit to tithing; create a plan to increase your giving to God’s work in the world
  • Serving through leadership – Session, Deacons, etc.
  • Engaging in spiritual conversations and sharing my faith with others
